… the 4th of july, super american, super patriotism upon my dash…
it actually kind of bothers me…
there’s… well… to be perfectly honest…
I don’t like the USA.
It actually goes further than that.
I actually dislike the USA…
It’s something that’s taken a while to understand/realize and I can’t give you one good reason for it, but there’s something there, something heavy and dark and frustrating and practically permanent. And the causes are a few…
Now I know, a “lot” of the internet is in the states, for all intents and purposes, but it’s exhausting how much everything centers and/or is based off of US perspectives on ever so many things. For example, when I’ve debated vegetarianism, people have made endless references to the factory farms… that just don’t exist in my country… or local fruit and vegetables… which barely exist in my country at all! There seems to be this assumption that everyone on the internet is an “american” until stated otherwise. It gets really annoying really fast… at best.
“The land of the free….”
There are several freedoms I wouldn’t have in the states that I enjoy in my home country.
The freedom of not being denied necessary healthcare.
The freedom of not starving in the streets.
The freedom to be married to my husband.
You know… little things… like… you know… not dying… kinda make me feel a little bit more free than the alternative…
Now, I’m not saying my country’s perfect, gods no, hell no, no, no, no…
And I don’t really enjoy our own independence day, but I tolerate it’s local celebration and can even appreciate some of what comes with it, like little things about how we can go about making it a better country, not in the context of “better than yours” but in the context of “better to live in… for everyone who so does.”
And I guess that’s a part of what irks me so much ‘bout “American patriotism”… the whole “we’re nr.1” thing… the whole “greatest country in the world” thing…
It can be seen as the best place to live, if you belong to a certain, very small, group of people, but overall, it’s not the best place to live for every different type of person.
.. what are the states actually nr. 1 at?
And then there’s where the “country” comes from….
meh… maybe it’s just my irks and general surliness… but I saw three posts and was already fucking bored with it…
I think I’ll come back on saturday, when ya guys are completely done with it and I can just.. not see it no more
